Playful Schools

Loose Parts are recycled resources that can be played with in a multitude of ways. These include: tyres, plastic tubes, guttering, ropes, cable reels, wheels, wooden pallets, barrels, wooden blocks and planks and an assortment of other unique objects!

Using these, pupils are encouraged to be creative in their play, letting their imaginations run wild and turning neglected objects into valuable tools for learning and discovery.

Our
Schools
Programme

We promote and enable play as a vital form of health and wellbeing support in parallel to the school curriculum, through the supply of resources, play sessions and training.

Our work, supported by Dundee City Council, has explored the many different positive outcomes of Loose Parts Play for pupils. These include improved confidence, teamwork, communication, social skills, educational attainment, curricular engagement and transferable skills.

We offer a range of services, including supported play sessions, delivery of resources, training and a range of reports documenting the benefits and impacts of Loose Parts Play in schools. We are flexible and can adapt our service to meet your school’s specific needs and requirements.

We are currently partnering with Queen Margaret University and Play Scotland to research the impacts of play in secondary schools.

If you are interested in learning more about how we can enable you to develop Loose Parts Play for your pupils, please get in touch for a chat.

Sessional Play days for schools

We offer supported play sessions, empowering schools to use Loose Parts with pupils. Our sessions build pupil confidence and enable teachers to understand the psychology behind Loose Parts Play so they can embed this into the school and curriculum.

Our sessions are an introduction to Loose Parts Play for both pupils and offer staff an opportunity to gain a practical understanding of how to facilitate sessions.

Your school can commission one day of play or a programme of regular sessions - we have found that regular sessions support the embedding of Loose Parts Play into the school and the development of wider positive impacts out-with the sessions.

We work with whole classes to provide team building and improve communication or target groups of pupils who may be vulnerable or experiencing challenges to engaging with the school system.

Please get in touch to find out more.

Annual contract for Schools

Our team source and deliver Loose Parts for creative play-based learning, which we supply to schools across Dundee, Angus, Fife and Perth.

We offer an annual contract of resources which consists of four deliveries a year, so you receive a whole new set of play materials each school term!

This regular rotation of items keeps play interesting and engaging for pupils and a contract also includes membership for our ScrapStore, which offers a range of cheap recycled creative materials.

Professional Development and Training
(CLPL)

We provide Loose Parts Play CLPL training to support anyone working with children and young people to embed play-based learning in their practice.

Fife Council
Play Reports

In summer 2023 ScrapAntics were excited to be

asked by Fife Council to help with their Play

Sufficiency Assessment.

Our Loose Parts Play team were able to talk with parents, children and young people aged from 0 to 18 years to find out their thoughts about play spaces and play facilities across Fife.

We created a report with all of the young people's feedback and a toolkit to support other organisations looking to carry out similar consultation.
