Role – ScrapStore Volunteer

Role Summary 

To support the day to day running of the Scrapstore, helping us to continue supplying our members with affordable art resources.

Duties are varied but can include; meeting and greeting new customers, processing sales, sorting through donations, offering advice on creative projects, social media, restocking shelves, tidying, cleaning and maintaining a well organised display.

If you are keen there is also the opportunity to go on to volunteer within other areas of ScrapAntics, including creative workshops, Play sessions and community events.

Part of our volunteer programme is enabling and supporting long term volunteers to create projects and activities that they would like to organise. ScrapAntics is run by the community, for the community and we offer you the opportunity to have a say in the running of the ScrapStore and feel empowered and confident to transform ideas for creative projects and community events into reality.

Time Commitment 

We are looking for volunteers to commit to a regular 3 hour time slot each week, ideally 11am – 2pm or 2pm – 5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and Saturdays 10am – 2pm. We can be flexible so please get in touch to discuss further.

Role Description 

Working as part of a team of enthusiastic and committed staff members and volunteers, you will be an important part of an expanding and well-loved creative recycling community organisation.

Volunteers will always be supported by staff and do not have key handling or cashing up responsibilities.

Your role is flexible but jobs can include;

Sorting, weighing and organising new donations

Greeting customers and explaining about ScrapStore membership

General tidying and cleaning to maintain a clean and comfortable space

Ensuring the shop displays look appealing and tidy, helping with design solutions and signage

Pricing items, processing sales and money-handling

Data entry – adding new member’s details into our database

Social media – photographing items and creating content for our Facebook and Instagram

Helping price more valuable items and posting to Facebook Marketplace

Getting creative – making items from our materials.

ScrapAntics is involved in exciting community projects all over the city such as Play sessions in schools and parks, community art projects and outdoor activities with the New Scot community.

The ScrapStore is at the heart of what we do and volunteers are integral to our community impact and making a difference for the people of Dundee.

This role offers you the opportunity to shape the activities and events we offer to best benefit our community, and the chance to up-skill yourself so that you can gain knowledge, skills and experience whilst meeting new people and promoting sustainability.
